Google Home is a smart speaker developed by Google that enables users to interact with it through voice commands. The device can perform various tasks such as playing music, controlling other smart devices, providing information and more. In order to continuously improve the Google Home experience, Google has introduced a Public Preview program where users can test new features before they are officially released. This guide will walk you through the steps of signing up for the Google Home Public Preview and testing out new features.

Step 1: Check Device Compatibility

Before signing up for the Public Preview program, make sure your Google Home device is compatible with the beta software. Currently, only first-generation and second-generation Google Home devices are eligible for the program.

Step 2: Join the Google Home Public Preview Community

To access the Public Preview program, you will need to join the Google Home Public Preview Community on Google+. This community is where Google posts updates and announcements about new features and allows users to provide feedback. To join, simply sign in to your Google account and request to join the community.

Step 3: Enroll Your Device

Once you have been accepted into the Public Preview community, you can enroll your device in the beta program. To do this, go to the “Devices” tab in your Google Home app and select your device. Then, click on “Settings” and scroll down to find “Preview Program”. Click on it and then click “Join Program”. Note that it may take up to 24 hours for the beta software to be pushed to your device.

Step 4: Test New Features

Once you have enrolled your device in the Public Preview program, you will start receiving updates with new features. These features are still in development and may not be fully functional, but they give users the opportunity to test them out and provide feedback. You can also check the Google Home app for any new features that have been added.

Step 5: Provide Feedback

As a member of the Public Preview program, it is important to provide feedback on the new features you have tested. This helps Google improve the user experience and fix any issues before officially releasing the feature. You can provide feedback through the Google Home Community or by using the “Send feedback” option in the Google Home app.

Conclusion

By signing up for the Google Home Public Preview program, you have the opportunity to test new features and help improve the overall user experience of the device. Make sure to regularly check for updates and provide feedback to ensure that future releases of Google Home are even better. Happy testing!

Additional Tips

  • If you encounter any issues with the beta software, you can always opt out of the program by going back to “Preview Program” in your device settings and selecting “Opt-out”.
  • Keep an eye out for announcements from Google in the Public Preview community about upcoming features or changes. This will give you a heads up on what to expect in future updates.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment and try out the new features. Your feedback is valuable in shaping the final release of these features.
  • Make sure to have fun while testing out new features on your Google Home device!  So, keep a lookout for any new updates and enjoy being part of the Public Preview program. Happy testing!
