Google is making a big change to how you navigate search results on both desktop and mobile devices.
What’s New?
Instead of scrolling endlessly through search results, you’ll now see a more straightforward button-based system.
For Desktop Users:
- A “Next” button will appear at the bottom of the search results page, letting you load more results one page at a time.
- Google is also bringing back the classic page number options (1-10), so you can jump directly to specific pages if you prefer.
For Mobile Users:
- The endless scrolling feature will be replaced with a “More results” button. This gives you the option to load more results whenever you want, making it easier to control how much you see at once.
Why the Change?
Google says this update is all about efficiency. By not automatically loading pages you might not be interested in, they aim to deliver search results faster. They also found that endless scrolling didn’t significantly improve the user experience.
Impact on Websites
This change might slightly affect websites that rank beyond the first page of search results. Users will now need to click to see more results, meaning a more conscious decision is required to go beyond the initial results.
When is it Happening?
The update has already started rolling out for desktops, with mobile changes expected by the end of June. So, next time you search online, get ready to click a button instead of scrolling endlessly!
